Jack Goff held off a late charge from Jason Plato to claim his first win in the British Touring Car Championship in the final race at Snetterton, with Andy Priaulx third.
Goff got a good start from pole and made the most of his soft tyres and a squabble behind to eek out an early advantage, which left him with enough of an lead on the final lap to fend off Plato.
The MG driver raced away at the start as Sam Tordoff slipped back from second for a second-consecutive race, as Priaulx rounded him and Plato to move up into second.
Plato looked to have a better pace than the West Surrey Racing driver, however, and made a move stick into Nelson on the lap two.
Goff – who was also running without ballast – had pulled away by a couple of seconds at the end of the lap, but surprisingly maintained his advantage over Plato, who was unable to make much of an impression.
The 24 year-old’s lead was 1.384s heading into the final lap, and despite a shaky moment through Coram it was enough for Goff to claim his first BTCC victory by 0.315s.
Priaulx was a solid third but had to hold off team-mate Tordoff on the final lap, while Andrew Jordan made it two MGs in the top five with fifth. There was a solid end to the weekend for the returning Mat Jackson, who showed that he had lost none of his racing nous with an overtake on race one and two victor Colin Turkington.
Rob Austin had a trouble-free run to eighth, while Tom Ingram and Rob Collard completed the top ten.
Race three was a case of deja vu for Gordon Shedden, who pulled into the pits early on and finished two laps down on Goff in 24th.
