Gary Paffett took comfort in being the highest-placed driver from Mercedes in race 12 of the 2015 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, taking sixth place at Moscow Raceway on Sunday.
The Brit, who took the title back in 2005, has secured eight points finishes so far, including three podium finishes
His sentiments after what was another difficult weekend for the Stuttgart manufacturer, showed just how really competitive the DTM has become, since the series switched back to the double race format this season.
“Obviously, I would have liked to do better than sixth place, but in view of our pace, that’s probably about right,” said the Briton, who showed that his race pace was impressive during the entire weekend.
“I lost the DRS to the guys in front quite near the start. I was just fighting the whole race after that, trying to draw away from the other drivers.”
Many drivers found it difficult to overtake in the second race, including Paffett himself, who made up just one place in race 12.
His quickest lap was approximately four tenths off the blistering pace set by eventual race winner Mike Rockenfeller.
“We weren’t quick enough to win today, but sixth place means more points. It’s tough to score points every weekend. Hopefully, we can get back on the podium next race.”
