Team BMR’s Colin Turkington made it two wins out of two races in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Snetterton, taking the race two win ahead of WIX Racing’s Adam Morgan and WSR’s Andy Priaulx.
In an eventful race, Turkington cantered to a second win of the day at the front, having started from pole position. The result means that Turkington further closes the gap to points leader Jason Plato.
Morgan held off a four-car train for fourth, having to withstand heavy pressure from Priaulx for second, who in turn had to fend off Plato behind to secure his fifth podium result of the season.
Plato took fourth, having passed fifth-placed Sam Tordoff for the position on lap seven. Tordoff, who took the flag in fifth, had earlier got off to a poor start from second on the grid, losing the BMW driver two places before the first corner.
Sixth went to the top MG of Jack Goff, ahead of team-mate Andrew Jordan in seventh. Motorbase Performance’s Mat Jackson took advantage of the high attrition rate to score eighth, with Rob Austin and AmD Tuning’s Mike Bushell completing the top ten.
There were first overall BTCC points for Barry Horne in 13th, who was competing in only his second race for Dextra Racing, and the Infiniti of Derek Palmer Jr in 15th.
It was a race to forget for the works Honda team, with both Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal retiring from the race. The duo made contact on the opening lap of the race, seeing Shedden hit in the left-rear corner by Neal and sustaining significant damage to his wheel. Whilst Neal was able to continue, he was later shown the black-and-orange flag due to the damage on the front-right corner of his Civic.
Rob Collard’s poor luck continued from the very start of the race, with the WSR driver spinning out at the first corner following contact, leading to left-rear damage. This time the BMW driver was able to have his car repaired, although he was classified outside the points in 20th position, three laps down.
Race one podium finisher Árón Smith came together with Power Maxed Racing’s Dave Newsham on the second lap of the race, leading to the retirement of both drivers from the race as Smith crabbed his way back to the pits.
There were also dramas for the Eurotech Racing pair of Jeff Smith and Martin Depper on the opening lap, who came together with Team BMR’s Warren Scott exiting Williams corner. Depper and Scott were out of the race, whilst Smith continued albeit a lap down.
Team HARD’s Kieran Gallagher failed to take the start of the race, stopping at the bomb hole on the green flag lap.
