Colin Turkington scored his second British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) pole position of the season at Snetterton, as Team BMR locked out the top three positions with Árón Smith in second and Jason Plato in third.
Turkington posted the fastest time, a qualifying lap record of 1:56.047, with around eight minutes to go to claim his second pole of the season ahead of his two team-mates. Both Smith and Plato had earlier enjoyed spells at the top of the times, but were unable to take the top spot from the reigning champion.
MG’s Andrew Jordan was fourth fastest behind the Volkswagen trio, ahead of the top Honda of Matt Neal in fifth. It was a disappointing qualifying session for the championship leading Honda of Gordon Shedden though, who could only manage 16th fastest as the Scot struggled with maximum success ballast in his car and a power steering failure.
Andy Priaulx was the leading BMW driver in sixth, with the Guernseyman making last-ditch efforts in the closing minutes to improve his time. Also trying hard to improve at the end of the session was MG’s Jack Goff, although the youngster overstepped the line on his last lap and had to abandon his lap, which was the fastest of anyone at the time, leaving him seventh quickest.
WSR’s Sam Tordoff was eighth fastest, ahead of Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram in ninth, with the second GardX-backed WSR car of Rob Collard completing the top ten.
Power Maxed Racing’s Dave Newsham came close to equalling his best qualifying result of the season, just missing out to end up in 11th.
WIX Racing’s Adam Morgan was 12th, ahead of the leading Audi of Hunter Abbott in 13th.
Motorbase Performance returnee Mat Jackson was disappointed to end up in 14th on the grid, after the Ford driver had earlier in the day been sixth fastest in first practice.
The session passed without any major incidents, although 27th fastest Stewart Lines had a close encounter when he entered the final corner at Murrays backwards, with 28th quickest Kieran Gallagher doing well to avoid his fellow Toyota driver.
Aiden Moffat failed to take part in the session after suffering from concussion as a result of his second practice accident.
