Colin Turkington said he was ‘delighted’ to have secured pole position ahead of Round 16 of the British Touring Car Championship season at Snetterton.
Turkington pipped team-mate Aron Smith to the fastest time in a fiercely competitive session, and in so doing became the first man to secure two pole positions in the 2015 season.
The Northern Irishman’s lap also broke the track qualifying record, set last year by Jason Plato.
Speaking to TouringCars.Net after the session, Turkington was thrilled to have strung the quickest time together around the Norfolk circuit.
“I’m delighted to get my second pole position,” he exclaimed. “I put a really strong lap together, we’ve had a strong weekend but it was just about finding the perfect balance and getting the best lap.”
Pole for the double-champion also came after his bonnet came lose on his first run, but Turkington insisted he had been unruffled by the incident.
“I think one of the pins wasn’t in correctly – it was a worrying moment but we recovered so it doesn’t matter too much.”
And with a sole victory to his name so far in 2015, Turkington was eager to add to his tally with a competitive showing in tomorrow’s three races.
“It’s certainly the goal [a win],” he insisted. “If you qualify on pole you give yourself the best chance to do that – we knew we had a quick car here at Snetterton so tomorrow’s our chance to score some good points.”
