António Félix da Costa followed up his first pole position in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) with a maiden win at Zandvoort, finishing ahead of Augusto Farfus and Bruno Spengler as BMW finished 1-2-3-4-5.
BMW Team Schnitzer’s Da Costa scored a comfortable first win in the German series, finishing half a second ahead of Team RBM’s Farfus at the flag.
The Portuguese youngster had earlier got off to a strong start to lead the race early on, leading from Spengler up until the first round of pitstops. Farfus got the jump on Spengler in the pitlane on lap 12 to take second, making up for the podium he lost in Saturday’s first race.
Timo Glock took the chequered flag in fourth, having got past BMW stable-mate Marco Wittmann and Audi’s Miguel Molina in the pit stop phase of the race.
Reigning champion Wittmann crossed the line in fifth to continue BMW’s dominance, which featured a historic top seven result on Saturday. The Team RMG driver did not have an easy race, however, as he made contact with Mercedes’ Lucas Auer on lap 16.
The bunching caused as Wittmann hit the Austrian also caught out Marco Tomczyk, who was running in 13th at the time. Tomczyk nudged the back of Molina’s Audi, who in turn was trying to take advantage of the slowed Wittmann. The result saw Tomczyk’s bonnet come loose and the damage put the former champion out of the race.
Pascal Wehrlein finished as the top Mercedes driver in sixth, ahead of the top Audi of Mattias Ekström in seventh, with the duo tied in second overall in the drivers’ championship, five points behind leader Jamie Green.
Audi’s Adrien Tambay scored his first points of the season in ninth, ahead of the Mercedes of Gary Paffett in tenth.
Another difficult race saw Green fail to finish in the points, with the Brit classified in 13th, having started down in 18th position. Fellow Brit Paul di Resta, who crashed out of Saturday’s first race, was a position behind in 14th.
Brit Tom Blomqvist finished 18th, having been hit with a drive-through penalty for causing a collision with Canadian Robert Wickens, who finished a place behind in 19th. Neither the BMW driver nor the Mercedes’ pilot had been battling for points at the time of the incident at turn one.
Audi’s Edoardo Mortara and Mercedes’ Daniel Juncadella failed to finish the race following contact on lap 21 at the high-speed Slotemakerbocht, resulting in suspension damage to Juncadella’s car.
The result sees Green remain at the lead of the championship standings, despite a point-less weekend for the Team Rosberg driver, with Wehrlein and Ekström tied for second.
