Team BMR’s Colin Turkington was the fastest driver in the British Touring Car Championship’s morning tyre test session at Snetterton.
The Volkswagen CC driver managed a 1:57.368s two-and-a-half hours into the session, although that time remains three-tenths shy of his best effort during last year’s test at the Norfolk circuit.
Triple Eight’s Andrew Jordan was second fastest, 0.049s behind, while Turkington’s team-mate Jason Plato completed the top three.
The test, which will continue in the afternoon as part of Dunlop’s evaluation of its 2016 tyres, started at nine o’clock and ran uninterrupted, with a spin for Nicolas Hamilton at Coram the most notable incident.
Championship leader Gordon Shedden was fourth, while Tom Ingram improved to fifth late on.
The session also marked Motorbase’s return to the BTCC fray, and lead driver Mat Jackson gave some indication of what his Ford Focus might be capable of, as he posted the seventh fastest time behind Jeff Smith.
Matt Neal, Andy Priaulx and AmD Tuning’s Mike Bushell completed the top ten.
Testing resumes at 13:30 BST, with the afternoon session running until 17:30.
