Nicolas Hamilton insisted he was happy with his progress as he prepares for his first British Touring Car Championship qualifying session at Croft this afternoon.
The 23 year-old finished second practice in 28th position, marginally quicker than fellow newcomer Max Coates, having earlier recorded the 26th fastest time in the opening session.
And speaking after the second 40-minute session, Hamilton was content with his early showing but admitted that he felt there was more pace to come from both himself and his Audi S3.
“You always feel more comfortable the more you drive a car, and now it’s all about getting more about confidence behind the wheel,” he said after second practice. “In my head, I want to go faster, but I’m still learning where to push and where to brake that little bit later. That is something that will come with time.
“I know that I’m not driving to my full potential and that there is more to come from me, and also from the car. It isn’t quite where I want it to be at the moment but we’ll make some changes for qualifying and see if we can get a bit quicker again.
“I’d like to think I can qualify off the back of the grid and that’s the aim.”
