The new Onyx Engineering Ford Focus ST for the TCR International Series hit the track at Brands Hatch today, with the car completing a test before it returns to the series at Monza this weekend.
The car was only completed shortly before the season opener at Sepang in Malaysia, where it endured teething electrical issues. Having withdrawn from the subsequent events in China, Spain and Portugal, the outfit are ready to return to the new TCR series with Proteam Racing in Italy this weekend.
The car was piloted by British driver Tom Boardman in the test, who has experience racing in the British and World touring car championships.
“The car ran well and performed as we hoped it would,” explained Onyx boss Mike Earle. “The engine that our partner Mountune has produced is particularly impressive, very strong.
“We had a couple of things to sort out during the day as you would expect with a brand new car, but looking at the data and the feedback from Boardman, it is very encouraging at this stage.”
Two Ford Focus cars are expected to run in the Italian TCR event this weekend.
Hope that both cars are there in Monza.
