LADA’s Rob Huff is preparing himself for a busy few days at the Nürburgring Nordschleife this weekend, with the Brit taking part in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) as well as the legendary 24-Hour race.
As well as his regular WTCC duties, Huff will also race for Team Premio at the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3, partnering Phillip Frommenwiler, Kenneth Heyer and Christian Krognes.
Having previously raced on the infamous circuit on four occasions, Huff is well placed to appraise the circuit known as ‘the green hell’.
“The Nürburgring Nordschleife is the most challenging circuit in the world,” said Huff. “It’s by far the longest track too, and that means the cars are given more of a workout than they ordinarily would at more conventional circuits.
“In contrast to the velvet-smooth F1-style circuits we typically visit, the Nordschleife is a bumpy and undulating road course, so setups will be different and finding the correct balance will be critical.”
Huff is also no stranger to busy weekends at this time of year. In 2014, when the WTCC visited Spa-Francorchamps on the other side of the Belgian-German border on the same weekend, Huff made the trek across to Germany to participate in the 24-Hour race. This year, at least the Brit’s weekend will be slightly less busy, due to the WTCC sharing the bill.
“I am very much looking forward to a busy weekend at ‘The Ring’,” added Huff. “I am thankful to the team and Dunlop for allowing me the opportunity to take on the 24 Hours in front-running machinery, which I think is worthy recognition of my endurance outings last year at the Nordschliefe and elsewhere, having also achieved five podiums in six starts, including a second place finish in an SLS at the Dubai 24 Hour race.
“Knowing both the Mercedes and the track well, I am hoping to settle right in and get a strong result in both the WTCC event and 24 Hours.”
