Pepe Oriola ensured that Craft-Bamboo Racing remained on top of the times in second practice for the TCR International Series in Valencia, ahead of series newcomer Bas Schouten.
The session was red-flagged before it had really begun, after Franz Engstler, who ended up fourth fastest, caused a red flag stoppage before anyone had even posted a time. The German went off into the gravel at Turn 12 on his first flying lap and had to have his Audi TT towed out of the gravel.
When the session resumed, Oriola immediately rose to the top of the times, posting a time of 1:42.632 before improving by 0.040 seconds, although the Spaniard fell shy of the fastest time of the day which was set by team-mate Jordi Gené in first practice.
Bas Koeten Racing’s Dutch newcomer Schouten was second fastest after posting a fast lap late in the session, leaving him 0.335 seconds shy of Oriola.
Stefano Comini was third fastest for Target Competition, with the Swiss driver unable to match Oriola’s pace, ending the session 0.710 seconds adrift.
Andrea Belicchi was fifth fastest for Target Competition, ahead of Craft-Bamboo duo Sergey Afanasyev and Jordi Gené.
Gianni Morbidelli ended the session as the top WestCoast Racing Honda driver in eighth, ahead of team-mate Kevin Gleason. Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s Lorenzo Veglia, still competing at the wheel of a SEAT León, completed the top ten.
There were problems for Campos Racing, with Oscar Nogués stopping in a cloud of smoke in the pitlane after completing just five laps. The Spaniard was the slowest driver, almost three seconds off the pace. Jordi Oriola fared slightly better in second practice, posting the 14th best time.
Qualifying takes place at 15:00 CEST (14:00 BST).
