Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Pepe Oriola continued to set the pace in second practice for the TCR International Series at the Salzburgring, ahead of Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s Mikhail Grachev.
Oriola posted the fastest time of the session with around nine minutes remaining to topple Target Competition’s Stefano Comini, before Grachev improved with five minutes to go. The Spaniard’s time was already six tenths faster than in first practice, thanks to benefitting from a slipstream.
Fourth fastest was Grachev’s team-mate Lorenzo Veglia, who had been on the pace throughout, even topping the times inside the first ten minutes.
The session featured plenty of slipstreaming, with drivers practicing for qualifying around the high-speed Salzburgring circuit.
Sergey Afanasyev spent most of the session near the bottom of the timesheets, but the Russian river improved late on to go fifth, ahead of Target Competition’s Andrea Belicchi.
Completing the top ten were Craft-Bamboo’s Jordi Gené, Bas Koeten Racing’s Bas Schouten, Target Competition’s Michel Nykjær and WestCoast Racing’s Gianni Morbidelli.
The session was briefly red-flagged around half-way through when Campos Racing’s Fernando Monje stopped on the track with a continuation of the engine issues which have blighted the team’s second Opel Astra OPC.
Qualifying takes place at 15:00 CEST (14:00 BST).
