José María López was fastest in the second World Touring Car Championship practice session in Hungary, heading the Hondas of Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro for a second consecutive session.
With second practice once again held in wet conditions, Argentinian López set his fastest time – a 2:11.506s – towards the end of the half-hour session, having earlier swapped fastest times with Tarquini.
The Italian ended the session 0.508s shy of López’s time, and with Monteiro a further six-tenths back in third the session was a productive one for the Honda team, with changes to their Civics seemingly yielding improvements.
A late lap from four-time champion Yvan Muller – which was 1.741s slower than López in the sister Citroen C-Elysee – moved Norbert Michelisz back to fifth, the Hungarian nevertheless enjoying another useful session in the third Honda Civic.
Rob Huff headed the third and fourth Citroen’s of Ma Qing Hua and Sebstien Loeb – who was able to take part in the session after repairs were made to his car following a crash at the start of first practice – for sixth, while Tom Coronel was ninth with Stefano D’Aste completing the top ten.
After Loeb’s crash in first practice and a number of drivers struggling at Turn 5, the second session was a much simpler affair with a trip through the gravel for Mehdi Bennani in the opening minutes and a spin for Huff the only incidents of note, despite a continuation of the treacherous conditions that were experienced in the opening session.
