British Touring Car Championship driver Tom Ingram will make his Rallycross début this weekend at Lydden Hill, whilst also competing in the opening round of the BTCC at Brands Hatch.
Ingram, who drives a Toyota Avensis for Speedworks Motorsport in the BTCC, will make his rallycross début at the Kent circuit just a day after the curtain raiser of the BTCC at Brands Hatch. The 21-year-old will race a Rage Motorsport RX150 Buggy in his first foray into the sport on Easter Monday – a far cry from his NGTC Toyota.
“I’ve always said that I’ve wanted to have a go at rallycross and rallying,” said Ingram. “They’re so different to any circuit racing that I’ve done. Rallycross is such a different discipline to the BTCC in terms of driving style, and the videos I’ve seen look awesome.”
The ultra-light buggy is capable of reaching 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, and Ingram admits that it will be a very different experience to his regular steed in touring cars.
“The RX150s look to be a serious amount of fun – it’s going to be like driving a very fast go-kart with gears on a loose surface,” he added.
21-year-old Ingram was invited to Lydden Hill after having impressed in a Citroën C2 rally car at Sweet Lamb in Wales earlier in the year.
The second round of the British Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill will be broadcast live online here.
