Zengő Motorsport’s Ferenc Ficza set the pace in second practice for the TCR International Series in Malaysia, as SEAT León Cup cars continued to dominate the top of the timesheets.
Hungarian Ficza was more than half a second faster than Spaniard Jordi Gené for Craft-Bamboo Racing, with Andrea Belicchi third fastest in his Target Competition León as he had been earlier in first practice.
SEAT cars occupied the top six positions, with Craft-Bamboo’s Sergey Afanasyev fourth, ahead of Target Competition duo Michel Nykjær and Stefano Comini in fifth and sixth respectively.
The top Honda was again Gianni Morbidelli, this time in seventh, around 2.2 seconds off the pace, ahead of West Coast Racing team-mate Kevin Gleason in eighth, with the duo separated by three tenths of a second. Honda cars had their extra 30 kg of ballast, which was applied before first practice, removed for the second session.
Mikhail Grachev outpaced Liqui Moly Team Engstler team-mate Franz Engstler in his Audi TT Cup car, posting the 12th fastest time. Like with the Hondas, both cars had their 50 kg extra compensation weight, which was added before first practice, removed ahead of the session. Nevertheless, both drivers were more than 3.5 seconds off the pace.
Proteam Racing’s Diego Romanini was last, completing just four laps. He posted a time some 50 seconds off the pace on a reconnaissance run in his new Ford Focus RS.
Neither of Campos Racing’s Opel Astras of Igor Skuz or Jordi Oriola were able to post a time for the second successive session, due to technical problems.
