The World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) will feature a grid of twenty drivers in TC1 machinery in 2015, with additional cars from Citroën, Honda and Chevrolet making up the field.
As in 2014, three manufacturers are represented in an official capacity, with Citroën leading the way as defending champions from Honda and LADA. Chevrolet will once again be represented with a number of independent cars built by touring car specialists RML.
Only one driver will be making his WTCC début in 2015, with Belgian Grégoire Demoustier stepping up to the series with the returning Craft-Bamboo Racing outfit.
Elsewhere there is the return of former WTCC race winner Rickard Rydell in a Nika Racing Honda Civic and the charismatic Stefano D’Aste in a Münnich Motorsport Chevrolet Cruze.
Dušan Borković moves from a Chevrolet to a Honda for 2015, whilst Mehdi Bennani switches from Honda to Citroën.
John Filippi steps up from the TC2 class to join Hugo Valente at Campos Racing in the second Campos Cruze for 2015.
WTCC General Manager François Ribeiro is pleased to be able to welcome a full grid of TC1 cars for 2015, with one new Citroën, one new Honda and one new Chevrolet added to the chassis built for the 2014 season.
“The WTCC family has been very active since Macau last November to field a full TC1 grid,”said Ribeiro. “From approximately 15 TC1 cars in 2014, when the grid was shared with the old TC2 cars, we now have 20 TC1s entered, and we expect Campos Racing to enter their third car on an event-by-event basis, so that all existing 21 TC1 cars on the market will be racing in the WTCC.
“We welcome three new and returning teams, drivers from 14 countries when the second driver from ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport is announced, while the brand new yellow LADA Vestas built by ORECA will also be appearing on the grid.
“‘Catch me if you can’: let’s see who will be best positioned to challenge Citroën and José María López, the reigning world champions.”
