Serbian World Touring Car Championship driver Dušan Borković completed his first and only pre-season test for Proteam Racing this week, ahead of the start of the WTCC season in Argentina on the 7th and 8th March.
The main challenge for Borković and his team at the test was finding a suitable seat fitting, with the Serb standing at 2.07 m tall (6 feet 9 ½ inches).
“I was very pleased with the car after yesterday’s shakedown,” explained Borković, who heads into his second WTCC season after racing a Chevrolet Cruze in 2014 for Campos Racing. “I tested a little bit more today but most of the time we spent fitting me in the seat and it is still not perfect.”
Borković will be forced to race at the start of the season with a less-than-ideal seating position in his JAS Motorsport-built Honda Civic TC1.
“Proteam and JAS are working hard on fixing this problem and unfortunately my seating position won’t be improved for the first two racing weekends for sure, but I am hoping that with FIA approval we will find a solution soon.
“My back hurts a lot for now, I am sitting too high and my left leg numbs when I am driving but I won’t let it affect my performance.”
Comparing the car to his RML-built Cruze from last season, Borković admits that he is pleased with his limited initial impressions. The 30-year-old hopes to continue the form from the end of 2014 which saw him take a podium in race two in Suzuka, before being forced to sit out the season finale in Macau.
“[The] Honda is completely different from [the] Chevrolet. I like it a lot. I am additionally confident because of my result in my last race in 2014 in Japan.
“We are yet to see how am I going to manage with [the] Honda as the WTCC season is more complex than a test but so far I am very pleased. I can’t wait for the first race.”
