JAS Motorsport has revealed the first images of the Honda Civic which the Italian outfit is developing for customers in the TCR International Series for 2015.
JAS, which runs the works’ Honda Civic cars in the World Touring Car Championship, are developing the cost-effective cars to compete in the new TCR Series, formerly called the TC3 International Series.
The Italian touring car and rallying firm will be responsible for the design, construction and development of the Civic, working in partnership with Mugen for the engine development and build.
“The price cap and the technical regulations for the new TCR class match perfectly the needs of the touring car market and it enables us to extend our offer to Honda customers around the world,” said JAS Motorsport Managing Director Alessandro Mariani. “The price of the base car and the affordable running costs will allow many drivers and teams to participate in numerous national and regional championships while the TCR International Series will be a worldwide showcase for more ambitious outfits.”
Swedish team West Coast Racing have been confirmed as the first customer team for the cars, with plans to run three of the Civics in the F1-supporting series.
“Our existing customers in touring cars have been asking for a new racing car for some time,” explained Business Development and Customer Service Manager Mads Fischer. “Since the announcement by West Coast Racing there has been a lot of interest in our TCR project especially from our customers in Asia.”
The TCR International Series plans twelve events across three continents in 2015, with three events to be F1-supporting and the season finale to be held on the world famous streets of Macau.
