Spaniard Pepe Oriola will replace Dušan Borković in Campos Racing’s second TC1 Chevrolet RML Cruze for the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) season finale in Macau, after the Serb withdrew from the event.
Oriola had originally been lined up to race a TC2 SEAT León in the traditional final race of the season. However with Borković having withdrawn from the event as a result of a hand injury he suffered at the start of October, Oriola has now been presented with the chance to race a TC1 car for the first time.
“I am very motivated!,” said Oriola. “Although I am not in the same conditions as the others who have raced for the whole season, my goal is to achieve a good result. I wish to thank Campos Racing for offering me this opportunity that I hope to exploit in the best way.”
Oriola has not raced in the WTCC since the Macau finale in 2013, where he scored a podium finish with second in the final race of the season. Oriola raced a TC2-spec Chevrolet for the second half of the 2013 season.
Campos Racing will also run three cars in the TC2 class for regular driver John Filippi and Hong Kong drivers William Lok and Henry Kwong, who already made their WTCC débuts in Shanghai and Suzuka for the team respectively.
