BMW’s Bruno Spengler has been handed a community service penalty for contact with Mercedes’ Daniel Juncadella in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) race at the Hockenheimring, whilst Mercedes’ Robert Wickens was also penalised.
Spengler’s penalty states that he has an “obligation to accomplish three hours of work of public interest in the sense of Art. 12.3.1.c ISC. The exact content and date of the work concerned will be communicated to the driver by the DMSB”. The Canadian made contact with Juncadella five laps from the end whilst the duo were battling for tenth position.
Also penalised was Mercedes’ Robert Wickens, who has handed a post-race 30-second penalty. Wickens made contact with Farfus late in the race which dropped the Brazilian from a point-scoring position to 16th position, whilst the Canadian initially finished the race in eighth position.
The penalty dropped Wickens to 17th position, and also means he loses ninth position in the drivers’ championship.
The stewards also investigated incidents involving Vitaly Petrov and Adrien Tambay, and Edoardo Mortara and Joey Hand, but deemed that no further action was required.
I'd definitely take some community service as my penalty instead of what was just handed to me. #brunospengler #consistency
