Former Formula One driver Heikki Kovalainen will test a BMW Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters car at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz this week as the marque prepares for the eighth round of the season.
Finn Kovalainen competed in Formula One between 2007 and 2013, racing for Renault, McLaren and the Lotus/Caterham teams, taking one win at the Hungaroring in 2008 in the process.
The Finn was left without a seat for the 2013 season but stepped up for the final two races in the USA and Brazil to replace fellow Finn Kimi Räikkonen at Lotus. Kovalainen has not competed in 2014 after failing to sign for a team this year.
BMW states that the test will focus on the set-up of the car, and that Kovalainen will use the test to ‘gain an impression of the BMW M4 DTM’ car.
The last Finn to race in the DTM was former F1 champion Mika Häkkinen, who competed in the German series between 2005 and 2007.
