LADA’s Rob Huff says that he has used the mid-season pause in the World Touring Car Championship to ‘regroup and relax’ and that he is ‘keen’ to resume racing in Argentina this weekend.
Brit Huff has endured his toughest season in the WTCC to-date in 2014, managing just three points finishes so far and a best result of fifth.
The 2012 champion’s Russian team have struggled with their car being overweight and lacking aerodynamic efficiency in the first 14 rounds of the season, leaving Huff down in 14th in the championship.
However Huff has recently returned to winning ways away from the WTCC, taking victory in the Silverstone Classic historical touring car race at the wheel of a Super Touring ford Mondeo.
“I used the six-week break to regroup and relax and, while I’ve really enjoyed my time away and racing in great events like the Silverstone Classic, I’m really keen to getting my head back into the WTCC,” admitted Huff.
In 2013 Huff endured his worst weekend of the season, taking home just one points finish with eighth in race one after engine problems blighted his qualifying and contact with now team-mate James Thompson broke his steering in the second race of the day.
For 2014 Huff’s LADA team will also be bringing some new updates to his TC1 Granta in an effort to reduce the weight of his car. A number of development parts will also be fitted to the car in an attempt to close the gap to competitors.
“This is only the second time we’ve been to Argentina and my last visit was pretty miserable because what could go wrong did go wrong,” added Huff. “It will be a race against time to hone in on the perfect setup, but I’m excited to see whether the hard work LADA Sport LUKOIL has put in during the break will yield results.
“I have confidence in the team’s ability and I’d love to score some good points at the Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo to boost my championship position.”
