Gordon Shedden won the second British Touring Car Championship race of the day at Thruxton, with Andrew Jordan second and Rob Collard in third as the race was shortened after an incident between Nick Foster and Rob Austin.
After his race one victory, Jordan again led the field away with the fast-starting Rob Collard boxed in by the two Civic Tourers of Shedden and Matt Neal. Shedden outbreaked himself into Cobb and dragged Jordan wide, with Collard almost able to sneak by into the lead before slotting back into second as Shedden picked up third.
Collard had a good run into the hairpin at the end of the first lap, but Jordan held firm and began to break away. This time, however, Shedden made it clear of Collard as he sithed down the inside of the eBay Motors driver into the Club chicane after a good run down Woodham Hill, giving the Scotsman plenty of laps to chase down the Pirtek driver.
And chase down he did, quickly catching up to the leader before biding his time with the pressure on Jordan to stay in front. A small mistake on the exit of Brooklands from Jordan allowed Shedden to gain a car’s width of an advantage as the pair headed to the chicane, with the Honda driver securing the position before the race was red flagged.
That came when Austin and Foster, squabbling for 14th place, came together on lap 14 as Austin looked to move inside the third eBay Motors car through Church, sending the latter sideways at speed onto the grass before bouncing over the tyre barriers on the outside of the circuit.
Thankfully, Foster was able to walk away from the accident, and the countback on laps meant that the pair scored points for 14th and 15th respectively, just ahead of Aron Smith.
Despite losing touch with the front two, Collard remained untroubled to claim an impressive podium at a circuit where he and his team had expected to struggle, while Matt Neal came home in fourth ahead of Mat Jackson and Colin Turkington.
Jason Plato struggled home to seventh in his MG, having been harried all race by the Mercedes of Adam Morgan and Jack Goff in his Vauxhall Insignia. Fabrizio Giovanardi’s reward for tenth place is a reverse-grid pole for race three, the Italian picking his number at random.
Race three gets underway at 17:17 BST.
