Dušan Borković ‘aiming to make Serbia proud’

Serbian World Touring Car Championship driver Dušan Borković says that he is hoping to make his “countrymen proud” due to the devastating floods suffered in the Balkan region recently.

Borković qualified in 12th after a mistake in Q2 ended his chances of further improvement. The Serbian driver ran wide at the high-speed Ostschleife in a similar manner to team-mate Valente, who earlier had a crash in second practice. Although the damage to Borković’s car was less significant, it was enough to rule him out for the rest of qualifying.

Borković had earlier been fifth fastest in Q1 and feels that he could have challenged for entry into the final Q3 segment of qualifying.

“I am truly upset because of this,” said Borković of his qualifying effort. “I was even more motivated to drive with all my heart for Serbia considering everything that happened with the floods. I know I could have reached the top five in Q2 and compete for the highest positions.”

Serbia has recently experienced devastating floods, along with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Estimates have put the damage from the floods on the same level as the 1992-1995 war.

Consequently Borković has been working to raise awareness of his country’s plight and to raise money to help with the relief effort in Serbia. The Serb therefore hopes to be able to improve on his 12th place starting position for both of Sunday’s races to make his country proud.

“I hope the car will be ready for Sunday and that I will be able to achieve the result that will make my countrymen proud even with this starting position,” added Borković.

Details of how supporters can help the Serbian flood relief effort are given below.
