Audi Sport Team Rosberg’s Nico Müller topped the times on the second day of the official Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters test session at the Hungaroring, as Audi continued to set the pace.
The Swiss racer’s time was around two tenths of a second faster than that set by fellow Audi driver Miguel Molina on the first day of the official ITR test session in Hungary.
Müller, who makes his début in the DTM for Audi in one month’s time, admits that he felt at home in the car from the very start of the test session.
“I’m absolutely delighted – that was a good debut for Audi and in the DTM,”said Müller, 22. “It’s particularly important for me to see that I felt comfortable in the car and in the team from the very beginning. We aren’t even looking at the times, but it’s obviously always better to be in the top half of the list than in the lower half.
“We are trying to get through our program in order to learn as much as possible for the season from this test. I like the Hungaroring, of which I have fond memories: in the last four years I have won races in every category I have driven here. I like the track, it is very technical. It also appears to suit our car exceptionally well – in this respect we are very happy with the day today.”
Audi once again took the top two positions in the test, with Mattias Ekström second fastest.
Improving significantly on their pace from day one were Mercedes-Benz, with Brits Gary Paffett and Paul di Resta third and fourth fastest, within a second of the outright pace.
The session was extended by an hour to 18:00 local time to make up for two hours lost on Monday. Wednesday’s session will also run until 18:00.
