Glynn Geddie set back by engine issues

Glynn Geddie expressed his frustration after an engine issue forced him out of the second British Touring Car Championship practice session at Brands Hatch.

The United Autosports driver had earlier finished his first session in the series in 19th place in his Toyota Avensis, but expressed his disappointment at having to curtail his participation in the second session.

“We’re still trying to figure it out ourselves really,” said a frustrated Geddie. “It was an engine problem, we went out [and] it was an oil filter or something wrong with the engine.

“Unfortunately that was the first time we’d run proper boost and how it was going to be at race pace so we never got to see how it was but it [the car] felt strong before that happened so hopefully we’ll get out.

The issue came during the final session that Geddie and the team were able to prepare the Avensis for qualifying, something which he believes will set them back.

“We’ll be disadvantaged for qualifying obviously not having any laps but we just have to take it how it comes,” said the 23-year-old. “It’s definitely going to be a big problem. It’ll be the third set of  running we’ve ever done, going into our first set of qualifying which is never ideal but worse things have happened, we’ve started seasons with different cars, we’ve started seasons turning up on the day.”

Geddie’s earlier times from the session meant that although he finished in 23rd position on the timing screens, he was still well within a second of the pace setting lap time, and the Scot added that he was still looking forward to putting together his first qualifying effort in the series.

“It’ll be good,” concluded Geddie. “I just want to be there really, hopefully the car is reliable and we can go and see how the racing is and how the fighting is out there.”
