Spaniard Daniel Juncadella has been confirmed as a Mercedes-Benz driver in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters for 2014, with the 22-year-old combining his racing with a role as Force India reserve driver in Formula One.
Juncadella joined the DTM in 2013 after having won the 2012 Formula 3 Euroseries championship. His best result, a fourth-placed finish, came at the Norisring and Juncadella finished the championship in 16th overall, taking three top ten finishes during the season.
The Spaniard has now secured the opportunity to test for the Sahara Force India F1 team, whom Mercedes-Benz supply engines to.
“Joining Sahara Force India is a dream comes true,” said Juncadella. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to learn and will hopefully take me a step closer to eventually racing in Formula One. To work with the team at the track and in the factory will give me some valuable experience and I will do my best to make a contribution to help the team achieve its goals in 2014.”
Juncadella will be joined by Gary Paffett and Paul Di Resta. Mercedes have yet to confirm whether Robert Wickens, Roberto Merhi, Pascal Wehrlein and Christian Vietoris will remain with the team for the forthcoming season.
