Jack Goff will continue to race in the British Touring Car Championship after it was announced that he would return with sponsorship partner RCIB Insurance Racing for a second season of competition.
The 22-year-old will remain in the Vauxhall Insignia that he drove in 2013, with which he claimed an impressive podium in the final round of the season at Brands Hatch, tussling with series runner-up Gordon Shedden for victory before coming home to finish second.
With his plans for the 2014 season confirmed, Goff believed that his performance in that final race went some way towards securing his place on the grid.
“The last race of the season has certainly helped me over the winter,” Goff told btcc.net. “I’m lucky in that my sponsors have stuck with me over the last few years – RCIB Insurance, HSL, and all the other guys make this possible, so it’s great to be out there fighting for them again.”
With a season of experience under his belt, the Buckinghamshire racer is now confident of turning the potential he showed at times last year into consistent results for 2014.
“It’s brilliant to have a second year,” Goff remarked. “We had no testing or development last year, so with every race meeting I was learning the car and the team was learning the set-up, but we had good speed even if we couldn’t show it in all the races.
“We’ve brought in some new personnel to the team as well which should really help with the car. It’s going to be tough at the front of the field without a doubt, but there’s no reason why we can’t be fighting for podiums from the word go, and hopefully snatch that first win when we can.”
Goff was the first driver to be announced at the Warren Scott’s Team BMR outfit for 2014, which succeeds Tony Gilham’s Team HARD. squad, running the two Insignias and two Volkswagen Passats raced in the series last season. Goff will be joined by Aron Smith, Scott and two-time BTCC champion Alain Menu, who returns to the series seven years after he last competed in the series.
