Nürburgring moves in 2014 DTM Calendar

The seventh round of the 2014 DTM, due to be held at the Nürburgring has been postponed by a week after the final World Motor Sport Council meeting of 2013 in Paris.

The rest of the 10 event calendar remains the same as the provisional announcement and the postponement of the Nürburgring event means that the DTM’s German TV partner, ARD, can provide fans with both round seven of the 2014 DTM as well as the final day of the European Track and Field Championships in Zurich.

It also helps the teams as they have a 2 week break between the trip to Austria and the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg and the trip to the Eifel Mountains.

“The postponement of the Nürburgring round by a week means two advantages for us”, said Hans Werner Aufrecht, Chairman of DTM rights holder and promoter ITR e.V. “The teams needn’t to travel from Austria’s Red Bull Ring right to the Nürburgring but can prepare for the next task in the normal two – week rhythm.

“This reduces the stress, in particular for the mechanics and the engineers. In addition, the new date allows ARD to combine the coverage of DTM and the European Track and Field Championships to a top – class sports afternoon.”

The rest of the 2014 calendar remains the same, with Hockenheim hosting the season opener and season finale races, with Oschersleben, Norisring and Eurospeedway Lausitz completing the German events while the series also heads to Hungary for the first time in 26 years, a second visit to Russia and a third visit to China for the penultimate round of the campaign.

The Chinese event moves from Shanghai to a new street circuit in the third largest city in China; Guangzhou. The penultimate event takes place over the 25/26th September.

“The number of races on German soil will remain an integral part of DTM,” added Aufrecht.
