Serbian racer Dušan Borković will switch to a 2014-specification RML-built Chevrolet Cruze for Campos Racing in the 2014 World Touring Car Championship, it has been announced.
The former European Touring Car Championship racer, who finished third in this season’s standings, had previously been announced as competing in the TC2 category for next season.
However the Serb will now switch to racing one of the newer-spec cars for Campos in 2014, despite not having yet secured sufficient budget to complete the entire season.
“The original plan was to compete in the WTCC Yokohama Trophy at the wheel of a 2013 SEAT León,” explained Borković. “However, recently the team offered me to drive a Chevrolet in the championship’s elite class, competing against the top touring car aces. This was a now-or-never opportunity and I didn’t have to think too much before I agreed with the proposal.”
The 29-year-old will become the first-ever Serbian to compete in the WTCC. He is the fourth driver to be confirmed in one of the new RML Cruzes, after Tom Chilton and Tom Coronel secured a seat in one of the new cars each at ROAL Motorsport and Hugo Valente announced he will race one of the cars with Campos in 2014.
