Spaniard Oriola posted a time of 2:31.027 to go fastest, having earlier been second in the opening practice session of the day. RML’s Yvan Muller was second fastest, two tenths slower than his fellow Chevrolet driver, having been on top for much of the session.
Third fastest was Honda’s Tiago Monteiro, who was the only other driver within a second of Oriola’s pace, 0.903 seconds behind. The Portugese racer was followed by a pair of Münnich Motorsport SEAT’s, headed by Marc Basseng in fourth who was ahead of Macau-master team-mate Rob Huff.
There was a sizeable accident for Tom Chilton early in the session. After only five minutes the Brit got it wrong on the way in to the Solitude Esses and was then sent bouncing between the barriers, sustaining heavy damage to his Chevrolet.
