Audi have completed their traditional scouting event three day test as eight youngsters had the chance to test the Audi A4 DTM with Timo Scheider and Adrien Tambay as instructors.
The eight drivers at the test were all between 17 – 22 years of age and they had to focus on technical understanding of the car, dealing with the Audi Motorsport engineers and mechanics as well as giving feedback on the changes to the car. They also had to deal with a race simulation and driving fast lap times.
Joining regular Audi DTM drivers’ Scheider and Tambay were British drivers Jordan King and Harry Tincknell – King and Tincknell were awarded the opportunity as they finished as the best placed Volkswagen drivers in the FIA Formula 3 Championship. Tincknell finished the campaign fifth and the best of the VW runners with fellow Brit King just behind him in sixth.
The 2012 World Series by Renault Champion Robin Frijns, 2013 ATS Formula 3 Cup Champion Marvin Kirchhöfer, Alessando Latif, who raced in the Speed Euroseries, Thomas Schöffler, the 2013 International GT Sprint Series Champion, VLN entrant Ferdinand Stuck and Formula Renault Eurocup driver Stefan Wackerbauer completed the line up for the test.
“We regard this talent scouting event as an investment in the future,” says Dieter Gass, Head of DTM at Audi. “We’re absolutely happy with our current driver line-up but would still like to give young talents an opportunity to take a peek behind the scenes of the DTM from time to time. This is how some of our current drivers got started as well and today they’re part of the DTM or other series.”
