The Audi Sport Team Phoenix squad heads to Oschersleben for round 8 of the 2013 DTM Championship with positive memories from previous visits there.
“Thinking of Oschersleben primarily brings back positive memories of this track,” explains Ernst Moser, Audi Sport Team Phoenix Team Director. “Mike (Rockenfeller) has mounted the podium there before and Miguel (Molina) has been on pole there once as well. Thus, I’m confident that we’ll be in contention in the race again.”
Arriving with a 35 point lead in the drivers’ Championship is Mike Rockenfeller. The 29 year old took his maiden DTM podium finish at the circuit in 2007 in what was his second race.
He secured a fourth place finish during the last round of the Championship at the Nürburgring to continue his run of top ten finishes in 2013; he is one of only two drivers to have scored points in all seven races of the 2013 Championship.
“Oschersleben is very challenging in terms of driving skills and very rough on the car as well,” said ‘Rocky’. “I’ve always enjoyed the track. We’re working on being well sorted again and starting the weekend with a good basic set-up. I’m looking forward to Oschersleben and am eager to see how the relative strengths will pan out.”
Rockefellers’ teammate, Spanish driver Miguel Molina took his maiden Pole Position at the circuit in 2011 and after opening his points account for the season last time out at the Nürburgring, he is hoping to continue his upward trend in the final three events of 2013.
“Following the upward trend at the Nürburgring, I’m now all the more excited about Oschersleben,” the 24 year old commented. “This track has a special meaning for me because this is where I clinched my first pole position two years ago.”
