Darryl O’Young has admitted that he has turned his attention to securing Independent podium positions in the 2013 World Touring Car Championship as the series heads to America.
Ahead of the 9th round of the season at Sonoma Raceway, the 33 Year Old ROAL Motorsport racer is sixth in the Yokohama Independent standings, 11 points behind fellow BMW driver Stefano D’Aste.
The circuit played to the strengths of the BMW 320TC during the maiden WTCC Race of the USA in 2012 and O’Young is looking forward to heading back to the circuit.
The Sonoma weekend from last year saw O’Young’s final appearance in the Special Tuning Racing SEAT Leon before switching back to the Chevrolet Cruze and he will be looking to better his results from last year.
“The track is very well suited to the BMW as there is only short straights with low top speed,” explains O’Young. “From last year, I remembered the track had low grip, so it will be crucial to find a setup that works well in those conditions.”
In what has been a tough campaign thus far for the Hong Kong based racer, he is determined to turn his fortunes around during the final four weekends of the 2013 campaign.
“I am not looking at the season point standings anymore,” he added. “I only care about winning races and getting on the overall podium. I won’t let a bad season mentally stand in my way to succeed, so I will fight each and everytime I am in the car until I get there.”
