Jordan dominated the race from start to finish and was only briefly matched by Sam Tordoff in the MG, eventually winning by 3.2 seconds from Turkington. The Northern Irishman rocketed off the line and was up to second by the first corner, before being re-passed by Tordoff.
The race was interrupted by a safety car period, caused when Jack Goff turned Rob Collard around, after Jeff Smith got sideways in the middle of the pack.
After the restart, Turkington eventually muscled his way past just past the halfway distance in the race, and despite a scare on the final lap after running wide he held onto second from Plato, who also passed his teammate.
Tordoff eventually forfeited a further two positions, with Mat Jackson rounding off a strong weekend in fourth ahead of a battling Gordon Shedden. Tordoff split Shedden from his teammate Neal, who salvaged some points from a tough day after starting in 24th.
Race two winner Rob Austin was involved in a race-long battle with Speedworks’ Dave Newsham, with the latter prevailing despite being tapped sideways by the Audi.
Lea Wood crossed the line in 16th to claim a third Jack Sears Trophy win of the weekend and, crucially, the class championship. Wood’s win means that closest challenger Liam Griffin – who failed to make the start of the final race – can only win a further six races in the class, with Wood seven ahead on 13 wins.
