Macanese driver Jerónimo António Badaraco will join the World Touring Car Championship for the final three rounds in Asia as he makes his step up to the series with the Son Veng Racing Team.
The 39 year-old will race in Japan, China and Macau at the wheel of a normally-aspirated Chevrolet Cruze run by the team which raced in the Chinese round of the 2012 WTCC. He will compete for honours in the newly introduced Asian Trophy.
Badaraco has scored race victories in the Macau Touring Car Championship and was the 2010 champion in the N2000 class. Having previously raced at the wheel of Hondas, this will be Badaraco’s first experience at the wheel of a Chevrolet.
The announcement means that there will be at least nine Chevrolet Cruze’s represented on the grid in Japan, with the announcement of the return of China Dragon Racing who are also running Chevrolet’s for the final three events of 2013.
Badaraco will become the 13th driver from Macau to have competed in the WTCC since the series’ revival in 2005.
