Tordoff set two quick laps to eventually post a 1:57.388, and although Plato was unable to respond to the pace, he was still a full four-tenths ahead of Gordon Shedden to complete a second MG 1-2 in as many sessions.
Plato’s fastest lap was his first committed attempt at a flying lap after 12 minutes of the session, which was immediately faster than his time in the morning session and placed him more than eight tenths ahead of Tordoff.
Honda appeared to be struggling once more, but Gordon Shedden briefly split the MG duo before Tordoff’s improvement. Championship leader Neal was eighth, more than 1.5 seconds off the pace.
Although there were no incidents of note, the session was a lot busier than its morning counterpart, with teams eager to rack up the laps after the six week break.
The fine form of Dave Newsham and Adam Morgan continued in the afternoon session, as the pair set the fourth and sixth fastest times respectively in their Toyota Avensis’, with Newsham completing the most laps of the session at the track where he scored his maiden BTCC win last season. The pair were split by Andrew Jordan in his Pirtek Racing Honda Civic.
Warren Scott’s first weekend in the Team HARD. Volkswagen Passat continues to be a frustrating one, as a fuel pump problem forced him to sit out the whole of second practice.
Liam Griffin set the pace in the Jack Sears Trophy battle, with main rival Lea Wood suffering a misfire after his outlap. Andy Neate completed the runners who set a time in 25th, just over a second slower than his time in the morning session.
