After a frenetic first session which saw the red flag appear on two occasions, second practice was much calmer with proceedings taking some time to get going and no incidents of note.
As was the case in the first session, Plato had led the field for much of the time and it looked as though nobody would be capable of challenging his 1:26.644, but in the dying seconds Jordan eclipsed his time with a 1:26.605. The top three were separated by less than a tenth as Gordon Shedden got in on the action with a 1:26.701 with three minutes remaining.
Behind the leading trio Colin Turkington backed up a strong first practice time by setting the fourth fastest lap, a 1:26.990. The WSR man had been the early pacesetter and racked up an impressive 22 laps in the forty-minute session.
Sam Tordoff and Matt Neal were next up as they had uneventful runs to fifth and sixth respectively, both around half-a-second away from Jordan’s lap time.
The times were much closer in the afternoon than they had been in first practice, with two seconds covering the top 20 cars.
All four Toyota drivers had reasonable runs in the session, with Dave Newsham and Frank Wrathall seventh and eighth and Adam Morgan and Ollie Jackson 11th and 12th respectively. There was also an encouraging run for Rob Collard who grabbed tenth spot as he looks to sort out the issues with his BMW, and Jeff Smith recovered after his crash in the morning to set the 15th fastest time, just over a second-and-a-half away from his teammate’s lap.
After his speed in the morning session, Lea Wood finished second practice just 0.041 behind Liam Griffin who was the fastest S2000 runner in 22nd, with Aaron Mason, Warren Scott and David Nye completing the field.
Qualifying starts at 3:45 BST.
