The Addison Lee Motorbase team will expand to two cars at Croft as Michael Caine makes his return to the British Touring Car Championship in a third NGTC Ford Focus.
Caine, the reigning British GT Championship Champion joins the grid for this weekend having taken his first victory of the season at Snetterton last weekend in the British GT’s.
Having made his debut in the BTCC in 2011 for the team in the S2000 Ford Focus ST and securing a top ten finish in his first outing at Rockingham, Caine is looking forward to his return to the BTCC.
“I absolutely loved it the last time out – so if this weekend can be as good as that, then brilliant,” Caine said. “I’d like to say a massive thanks to Autoglym and everybody else that has been involved and helped to make this happen.”
Having tested the third NGTC Focus at Snetterton recently, Caine will debut the car and Motorbase Performance Team Principal David Bartrum believes that the 43 year old is the perfect wingman to pilot the third car.
Bartrum said: “It’s great to get the opportunity to race the third Motorbase NGTC and we’re really looking forward to seeing what Michael can do in the Focus this weekend; especially coming off the back of such a great weekend with our first GT race win.”
The return of Caine has been made possible through a sponsorship deal with Autoglym, and the Focus features a livery promoting one of their leading products, LifeShine.
“We have a long and successful history with Motorbase, and with Michael at the wheel, I’m sure this will be a competitive package,” said Paul Caller, Autoglym CEO. “LifeShine is a very important range for us, and with the profile that BTCC brings, and the results we know the team can deliver, I’m sure that it’s the perfect way to convey our message. The white heat of competition also proves to be a wonderful test-bed for all of our products, too!”
Bartrum is also pleased to have secured Autoglym’s sponsorship for Croft and is hoping to repay their faith with some strong results during the fifth round of the 2013 Championship.
“Autoglym have been a great supporter of the Motorbase Performance team for a number of years now and we’re delighted to have them on-board in such a big way for the new NGTC’s debut appearance,” Bartrum added.
“Like us, they constantly strive for the perfect finish every time; and with any luck we can put a shine on their weekend with a good set of race results,” he concluded.
