The 23 year-old was near the top of the times throughout the 90-minute session, and beat Rockenfeller to the top time by just 0.094 seconds. Scheider continued his strong early season pace by posting the third fastest time.
Reigning champion Bruno Spengler was fourth fastest, ahead of Miguel Molina, who made it three Audi’s in the top five positions.
Augusto Farfus was sixth, heading a trio of BMW drivers with Joey Hand seventh and Martin Tomczyk eighth. Farfus almost caused an accident late in the session as the Brazilian slowed to let former team-mate Andy Priaulx passed, with Audi’s Adrien Tambay following and the Frenchman having to take to the grass to avoid the slower cars in front.
Gary Paffett was the top Mercedes-Benz driver in ninth, with Audi’s Mattias Ekström completing the top ten.
All twenty two drivers were within six tenths of the outright pace around the short Brands Hatch Indy circuit.
