Sam Tordoff was quickest in first practice for this weekend’s British Touring Car Championship meeting at Thruxton, as rain limited the mileage that the drivers were able to complete.

Rain started to fall as the session began, but despite the poor conditions drivers ploughed on, with Lea Wood in his S2000 Vauxhall setting the early pace.
After a period of calm, the drivers returned to the track despite the damp conditions, with Frank Wrathall the next to show his hand in his Dynojet Toyota. Ollie Jackson was quick to follow him in the Speedworks Toyota.
After a string of consistent laps, however, it was Tordoff in his MG who topped the time sheets with ten minutes remaining on a 1:24.018. Ollie Jackson was second, with Wrathall third fastest.
Dave Newsham made it three Toyotas in the top four positions, with Jeff Smith finishing as the top Honda racer in sixth.
The weather is expected to improve into the afternoon, but should it stay the same then the Toyota runners will be full of confidence, with Jackson and Wrathall ending up second and third respectively, and Dave Newsham in fourth with Adam Morgan seventh.
Tordoff aside, the rest of the frontrunners were content to sit out the majority of the session, in expectation of drier running in the day’s remaining sessions.
After his spell at the front, Lea Wood was the quickest of the S2000 drivers in tenth.
