BMW Team MTEK drivers Marco Wittmann and Timo Glock are looking forward to racing at the Spielberg circuit as they both know the circuit from racing in other categories.
With BMW Team MTEK making their DTM début in 2013 and both drivers, Wittmann and Glock having joined the DTM field from single seat race series, the two drivers are relying on their previous experience to help them this weekend.
“So far, the season has started well for me at both Hockenheim and Brands Hatch and I am hoping to continue like that at the Red Bull Ring,” explains Wittmann, who has finished inside the top ten in both races to date, with a best finish of fourth at Brands Hatch.
“I raced in Spielberg in Formula 3 so I know the track already. It has quite a lot of long straights, so I think there are a few possibilities to overtake; especially with the DRS. I think the race will be exciting for the fans.”
Former Marussia Formula 1 driver Glock heads back to the Spielberg circuit for the first time since 2004 where he was victorious in a Formula 3 race.
Glock is still looking to score his first points finish in the DTM, having taking a best finish of 14th at Brands Hatch, having seen his DTM début finish in retirement.
“I am looking forward to being back in Spielberg again,” admits Glock. “The last time I was there, in Formula 3, I won a race, so I have good memories. However, that was ten years ago. Hopefully the track is still the same and I will get on with it well in a DTM car.”
