Tiago Monteiro is disappointed with how his Hungarian weekend went after a double non score in rounds 7 and 8 of the 2013 World Touring Car Championship at the Hungaroring.
Having finished the qualifying session fourth fastest and third of the Honda drivers, the Portuguese driver was hoping for a strong result in race one.
A collision with another rival meant that he dropped out of the top 10 and under braking for the first corner on the second lap; he locked up due to a cut tyre and ended up heading into the tyre wall.
The damage sustained from the race one off meant that he had to start round 8 from the pitlane and he worked his way up the order to finish 13th overall and with it, set the fifth fastest lap time of the race.
“It was not the weekend we expected,” explains Monteiro. “I knew that the first few corners would play a vital role and I was proven right. Some of our rivals were too hasty and reckless and it spoiled both my races. The team did a great job putting the car back into working condition and I thank them for their commitment and professionalism.”
The results left him with a double zero from the races and just 2 points from the weekend – meaning that he has dropped to joint 10th in the Championship with fellow Honda racer Norbert Michelisz.
“I’ve won plenty and my race was very fun, but I could not fulfil my goal, which was to score points. I hope we can smile in the next round,” concluded the Portuguese racer.
