Marc Basseng is predicting a difficult trip to the Salzburgring for the ALL-INKL.com Münnich Motorsport team, venue for rounds 9 and 10 of the 2013 World Touring Car Championship.
Fresh from their maiden WTCC victory last time out in Hungary, a result which saw reigning World Champion Rob Huff move up to third in the overall Championship standings, the Friedersdorf based squad are chasing more of the same in Austria as they look to hold on to third in the Yokohama Teams’ Trophy.
Huff has had previous success around the 4.5km Salzburgring circuit, having taken Pole Position a win and a second during the 2012 WTCC Race of Austria, in a Chevrolet Cruze.
“The track doesn’t suit the Seat too much,” explains Basseng, who is also the ALL-INKL.com Münnich Motorsport Team Manager.
“Because of the characteristics of this track it will be necessary to have a good setup and to drive very precisely on the Salzburgring,” added the current FIA GT1 World Champion, who is currently 13th in the drivers’ Championship.
For the teams’ third driver, René Münnich, he has never raced at the Salzburgring circuit and it will be a learning curve for the Münnich Motorsport Team Owner.
“The Salzburgring certainly is a challenge for me, but I will do my best like our whole team as well“, he explains.
“All of us will try to gather as many points as possible to end up in one of the top positions in the championship rankings. The success in Budapest definitely has been an extra motivation for the whole team,” Münnich concluded.
