RML hopeful of Marrakech success

After their double victory in the rain of Monza, RML and their drivers, Yvan Muller and Tom Chilton head to Marrakech for rounds 3 and 4 of the 2013 World Touring Car Championship.

In the previous six races on the streets of Marrakech, RML have secured 4 wins, one each for former drivers Rob Huff (2009), Nicola Larini (2009) and Alain Menu (2012) while Muller secured the victory in race 2 last year.

Muller secured a double win at Monza in the opening two rounds and he is hopeful of adding to his wins tally on the 4.5km Circuit Moulay Al Hassan.

“Monza provided the perfect start to the season – we came away with two victories and the championship lead,” said Muller.

“With very little winter testing it was more than we’d expected going into the first race.  That was a great boost for the whole team and we’re now heading to Marrakech with hope and optimism for more solid results.”

The triple Champion enjoys racing on the streets of Morocco and is looking forward to the event.

“It is a fascinating place and the atmosphere is incredible.  The WTCC is well supported out there and usually this track throws out some entertaining racing for the spectators.

“History tells us the Cruze should run well here so I am definitely targeting top points.”

Team-mate Tom Chilton enjoyed his best weekend to since he joined the WTCC field at the beginning of the 2012 campaign, as he secured his maiden front row start in qualifying and he converted that into his maiden podium finish in the opening race.

The Aon backed racer secured a top five finish in the second race to secure second in the Championship and help the team have a 1, 2 in the drivers’ Championship.

“I took my best result here in 2012, finishing 7th in the first race so this place holds some good memories (and hopefully luck) for me,” Chilton added.

“I really enjoy competing here; there is a constant element of danger with the concrete walls ready to ‘catch’ you and in the past we’ve seen just how costly slight mistakes can be – it’s all about being quick, clean and committed.”

“It’s a fun challenge, with the two fast straights linked by tricky chicanes and the slow hairpin – I can’t wait to get out in the Cruze again.  My car should be well suited here and now I have my first podium under my belt, I’m ready for more!” the British driver concluded.
