René Münnich and the ALL-INKL.com Münnich Motorsport team head to Marrakech for the second round of the 2013 World Touring Car Championship looking for another strong weekend.
After their debut at Monza, where Team Manager Marc Basseng secured a top four finish in the second race of the weekend having been in contention for a podium finish right up to the flag.
“We want to tie in with the good results in Monza. And this time we hope to be at the front of the field without any external contact in Qualifying“, explains René Münnich.
The 4.5km Circuit Moulay El Hassan presents a number of challenges compared to Monza, with the circuit being a street circuit compared to a purpose built circuit and the higher ambient temperatures will make a difference.
“It will be very important to find the right adjustments for the city course and to handle the high temperatures,” explains Basseng, who finds himself joint seventh in the Championship on 12 points.
The 2012 FIA GT1 World Champion is looking to add to his points total on the streets of Marrakech, and he added: “I want to get as many points as possible. So the main goal will be to cross the finish line. “
Rob Huff in the #1 SEAT Leon secured a brace of top ten finishes at a rain soaked Monza, having started at the back of the grid due to contact in qualifying. The 2012 Champion is looking to score more points in his bid to defend his title.
“I can’t wait to get behind the wheel again and to reach even more with my team,” explains the British driver, who is 10th in the drivers’ Championship.
Münnich experienced a street circuit for himself in 2012 as he was at the WTCC race of Macau, the 2012 finale and he knows what to expect this weekend.
“A city course is always something special, which I experienced myself in the field at the WTCC in Macau at the end of last year,” explains Münnich, Münnich Motorsport’s Team Principal.
“And the heat is very hard as well with temperatures nearly 30° Celsius, we have to be highly concentrated. The most important thing will be to avoid contact to the walls on this course“, he concluded.
