Speedworks Motorsport was left celebrating its best combined qualifying result since it joined the British Touring Car Championship in 2011.
Dave Newsham secured a top six starting position in the #17 Toyota Avensis, a result which almost matched the best result for the team; Adam Morgan secured a fifth place start at Snetterton last year.
Ollie Jackson in the sister Speedworks Avensis set the 11th fastest time of the session and it marked his best qualifying result since he joined the British Touring Car Championship at the back end of the 2011 campaign.
Jackson set his qualifying time despite having a cracked cooling pipe in qualifying, and his best time was within a second of the pole sitter Andrew Jordan.
“I’m pretty pleased with that,” he said.
“I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress considering today is the first time I’ve had any serious seat time in the car. It took a bit of getting used to at first, but I’ve been getting faster with each session.
“It’s a shame qualifying ended when it did, because I felt there was still more to come.”
Team Principal Christian Dick was delighted with the results from qualifying, a session interrupted by a red flag as well as snow showers.
“It’s even better than we could have expected,” said Dick.
“There is only one other independent driver in front of Dave on the grid, and that’s the guy on pole. We’re really happy with that, particularly as the changing weather made it difficult to know what to do.
“We knew the snow was coming, so decided to keep the cars on the circuit for as long as possible rather than get them to come in and cross over tyres. Luckily it worked out.”
