The ALL-INKL.com Münnich Motorsport team left Monza pleased with their results after Marc Basseng showed podium potential in the rain at Monza.
The reigning FIA GT1 World Champion finished the second race in fourth position having been on for a podium position during the opening laps of the race. He had been on for a top ten finish in his debut race before dropping down to 14th after a drive through penalty for his car not being off the jacks at the three minute warning.
“At the three minute phase before the start my car was jacked up five or six seconds too long,” explained Basseng, who is also the team manager at the team.
“But the good placing at the Qualifying was surprising for me. And at the races everything worked out, even under these hard conditions – you couldn’t see anything. I rarely experienced something like that so far. I had a great fight with Gabriele and I am really happy about the fourth position.”
Rob Huff in the #1 SEAT Leon had to fight his way up the order from the back of the grid after an accident in qualifying. The British driver finished sixth in the opening race and tenth in race two to leave Monza 10th in the Championship.
Team Principal René Münnich finished the Monza races 16th and 21st overall having started 16th and 17th overall. His qualifying session was hampered by the fact that he had been shoved off the circuit in qualifying.
Despite his results, Münnich is pleased with how the team got on at Monza: “We started into the World Touring Car Championships well thanks to our intensive preparation. Nobody could have known in advance that we almost got a podium placing already at the season opening,” explains Münnich. “The team did an excellent job.”
