Several drivers found the wet conditions challenging, with Münnich Motorsport’s Marc Basseng and René Münnich having spins at the first chicane.
Poleman Yvan Muller was fourth fastest in his RML Chevrolet, with Münnich Motorsport’s Marc Basseng fifth, although the German explored the limits in the wet and suffered a half spin at the first chicane.
Zengő Motorsport’s Norbert Michelisz was sixth fastest and the top Honda, appearing to have got over some of the problems he suffered on Saturday. Nika Racing’s Michel Nykjaer was seventh, some 2.768 seconds off the pace.
The top works Honda pilot was Tiago Monteiro in eighth, ahead of bamboo’s Alex MacDowall and Honda team-mate Gabriele Tarquini in tenth.
D’Aste’s time was even more impressive as he was the only BMW driver in the top ten. Tom Coronel was the second-fastest BMW driver in 11th, with the rest of the rear-wheel drive pilots 15th and below.
There was bad news for LADA however. Following the controversial qualifying clash between team-mates Aleksei Dudukalo and James Thompson on Saturday, neither driver will be starting Sunday’s races.
The first WTCC race takes place at 15:05 CET (14:05 GMT).
