Honda has announced that the world famous high performance lubricant brand, Castrol, has joined the title as title sponsor for the 2013 World Touring Car Championship.
Having joined the World Touring car Championship grid for the final three events of the 2012 Championship with a single car for Tiago Monteiro, the team have added a second car for Gabriele Tarquini.
Monteiro secured the first podium finish for the car on the streets of Macau and after a winter of development, the team are confident of a strong campaign in 2013.
The Castrol deal, which was announced at the FIA WTCC’s media presentation in Turin, also saw the team announce their name for the 2013 campaign – Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team – and the livery of green, white and red for the Civic.
“We are delighted to have Castrol join us as our team’s title sponsor,” Alessandro Mariani, Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team Team Principal explains.
“Like Honda, Castrol has a long and proud history in the world of motorsport and their enthusiasm and passion for racing matches our own. I look forward to our partnership in 2013 and on achieving the success and results we are all aiming for.”
The livery incorporates the corporate colours of Castrol as well as the colours of Honda with the colours of the Italian flag for Gabriele Tarquini and the Portuguese flag for Tiago Monteiro.
“The livery on the Civic looks absolutely fantastic and I’m sure it will wow the fans this season,” explains 2009 Champion Tarquini. “I know a lot of thought and time has gone into its design and it’s the colours of the Italian flag too, so I couldn’t be more pleased!”
“Castrol is such an iconic brand and sponsor in the world of motorsport, so I feel very honoured to be flying their colours this season,” Monteiro added. “I’m equally pleased that Brose, who has been a long term supporter of my career, is joining the team as co-sponsors. Like Gabriele, I will be looking to repay their support with results.”
As well as the announcement of Castrol as title sponsor, Honda also announced that the Brose Group will join Castrol as co-sponsors of the team.
